Working Vintage General Electric (GE) Brass Blade Oscillating Desk Fan – Type AOU. This 1920s-era GE desk fan is being offered in as-found condition. Unlike many of these vintage units found today, this fan is in working condition. It features the iconic 4-leaf brass blades and the classic “S-guard” wire cage. The motor housing and base retain much of their original dark finish, showing a wonderful authentic patina. The brass identification plate on the base identifies this as a Type AOU, Form AB1, with Spec 272088-1. The plate also indicates a three-speed setting: High, Medium, and Low, controlled by a lever on the base. Height: Approximately 16 inches. Guard Diameter: Approximately 13 inches. Functionality and Condition: This fan has been tested and is functional. The motor runs and it oscillates as it should. The motor itself runs relatively quietly; however, there are some audible rattles coming from the wire cage during operation (refer to the included video). The original cloth-covered power cord is in very poor, hazardous condition with significant fraying and exposed wires. It has been wrapped in electrical tape in several places. The cord MUST be replaced before regular use. Physical Condition: The wire cage guard is slightly distorted and will require some straightening by the new owner. This distortion is likely the cause of the rattling during use. The brass blades show oxidation and surface wear but are not bent. The GE logo medallion on the front of the cage is intact. Note: The original felt on the bottom of the base is gone and will need to be replaced.
