General Electric “WHIZ” Fan. Made in the Bridgeport, Connecticut USA. Up for your consideration is a beautiful 1920’s General Electric Whiz fan. It has been fully refurbished and every detail has been addressed to resemble the original specifications. General Electric was well known for building high quality fans in the 1900’s. This is the highly collected “Whiz” model. This is the third generation model with the switch on the base and brass bushings for extremely quite and smooth operation. It is a small, powerful fan that is of the highest quality. It has a 9 brass blade. The cage, motor housing and base are constructed of steel, it has one speed, brass badges, stands 12 tall and swivels up and down. This fan has been fully refurbished including a new power cord and plug, has been painted the original colors and has all its original hardware including the original switch. Everything looks and functions just like it did when first manufactured in the 1920’s. You can be assured, this is a professional restoration and you will not be disappointed. Manufactured : Bridgeport Connecticut, USA. Made by: General Electric. MFG Date: Mid 1920’s. Volts: 110 volt, 60 cycles. Color: base – General Electric Dark Green, cage – black, bottom felt – green, hardware and blades- brass. The fan was fully disassembled, cleaned and all paint completely stripped to bare metal. The surface was primed, sealed and 5 coats of factory matched dark green enamel was applied. Once applied and oven cured, the paint was hand rubbed to create a brilliant factory like finish. All of the original brass hardware was straightened, cleaned and machine polished to a brilliant shine. Any stripped screws where re-threaded. All the hardware on this fan is original. The GE badges were repainted and the brass letters hand polished to like new condition. The motor coils where in very good condition and have been re-coated for added protection. A new 8 foot antique style fabric cord and plug were installed that resemble the originals. All connections were soldered, sealed with heat shrink and rubber coated. The oil canisters were fully cleaned, polished and new oil and wicks installed. The bearings were removed, fully cleaned and polished. They are tight and smooth. New rubber grommets were installed on the base and body to protect the wires. The on/off switch contacts were cleaned for like new operation. New green wool felt was installed on the base, just the the original. Once everything was fully assembled, the fan was oiled and tested for 4 hours to make sure everything was working properly. The motor runs quite, cool, strong, and smooth. This fan operates just like it should. The final result is a stunning one of a kind functioning antique that will bring many years of enjoyment. This fan is the perfect size to display in your office, on a desk or on a shelf. Everything on this fan works as originally intended. No corners were cut during the refurbishment process. It was restored to match the original factory specifications and is a fine example of a professional restoration. This fan has lasted almost 100 years and now it is ready for many more.
