Here’s a beautiful, working, and very uncommon Western Electric 1/12 HP bipolar DC utility motor that dates to the 1890’s. As you can see in the pictures and the video, the motor’s cosmetic condition is excellent, and it runs smoothly and quietly. The motor has been disassembled, cleaned and lubricated, and it is suitable for safe operation. It’s the same rectifier that you see in the photos and in the video. Because this is a DC motor, it cannot be used with 120V household AC unless you are using this (or some other) AC to DC rectifier as an intermediary. If you attempt to run the motor with straight AC from your wall outlet, without using a rectifier, you risk irreparably damaging the windings — and more… The motor is approximately 8″ high by 8 1/2″ wide and weighs approximately 16 lb. Barn-Find, but when your “bargain” arrives broken, and without any hint of how you might be able to put it back together, you’ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
