This circa-1948 LAU Blower Company “Portable Cooler” model P-18 antique box fan has an FA Smith motor and heavy steel construction. Measuring 22″ x 22″ x 7, it has loads of character that cannot be faked. It appears to have been painted at least three times: there’s a pale blue-green, a dark hunter green, then a metallic copper finish. It was probably painted with some dirt/dust still on it. Fan is tested and works, but only runs only at high speed. Prior owner broke off knob, switch is now hidden inside the wiring housing (its set to high speed). He also added a newer power cord (the rest of the wiring is original). I added an Eagle in-line power switch for convenience. It probably wouldn’t take much to replace the switch altogether and turn it back into a 3-speed fan. Exterior shows literally decades of heavy use, but fan is still very sturdy, motor operates smoothly, blades don’t rattle, and it has been partially dismantled and cleaned inside and out as best as possible.
