Just acquired out of an old estate where it was stored for many years is this antique GE 298904 5 speed fan with pancake motor – when acquired, the blade was a little hard to turn, so before plugging it in, I removed the two brass screws above the front & rear oilers, added a few drops of oil & hand turned the blades & they freed right up & turned smoothly – I plugged this in & it fired right up. Runs smoothly & really moves the air – all 5 speeds operate perfectly & the blade rotates for quite sometime after turning off – I see no cracks, breaks, chips or repairs anywhere on this – the oil & wiping off some of the dust is all I have done to this & will leave the cleaning to the new owner – the nameplate on top of motor reads ALTERNATING CURRENT FAN MOTOR NO 298904 VOLTS 100/115 CYCLES 60 PATENTED MAY 13,’90 MAY 27,’90 AUG. 13,’95 JUNE 15, 1901 N. 5373 – the power cord is attached to the motor with two brass exposed power terminals – this measures approx. 21″ high X 17 1/2″ wide, brass blade is 16″ diameter, brass cage is 17 1/2″ diameter with brass GE emblem in the center – this solid fan I believe would make an outstanding restoration project…. Or can be left as-is & enjoyed. The item “ANTIQUE 5 SPEED GENERAL ELECTRIC PANCAKE FAN With BRASS BLADE CAGE ESTATE FIND” is in sale since Sunday, October 25, 2015.
