RESTORED Antique Vintage Electric Green Polar Cub Fan 8 Blades Made by Gilbert
Up for sale is a freshly restored one-speed antique green Polar Cub 8 fan. Polar Cub fans were made by Gilbert, and this one is from the 1920’s to 1930’s, and has an all-metal construction. The blade diameter is 8 inches, and the height is 10 and 1/2 inches. It doesn’t oscillate, and was built as a stationary fan. This fan was thoroughly restored inside and out, and the only thing that could possibly be seen as a “problem” is that the weld on the bottom right of the cage has been re-welded in the past. Also, the paint is not perfectly smooth on a couple of areas of the base as can be seen when you zoom in on the pictures, especially the last one. The slight un-smoothness on areas of the base is hardly noticeable unless you are examining the fan close up. This fan works great and puts out a ton of air for its size. It runs so fast it sounds like a mini-helicopter, and I would not be surprised if it even took off! I tested this fan for 6 hours and it performed perfectly, and didn’t get at all hot. This fan has a universal motor, so it runs on AC (normal house current) or DC. It is a 105-115 volt fan, so it runs great on house current. This fan will really display well with its beautiful dark-green/gold color scheme. It will also be a great conversation piece when guests come over! They really don’t make them like they used to! Below are listed the things that were done in the restoration process. The old paint was sanded off to the bare metal, and Rust-Oleum Hunter Green spray paint was applied to the surface of the main parts including the cage. The steel blades were painted with Rust-Oleum metallic Vintage Gold spray paint. The cage badge was also painted gold. Miscellaneous nuts and bolts and the base plate were painted with Rust-Oleum gloss black. The brush caps on the back of the motor are brass, and were polished up and lacquered to retain their shine. The plug was also custom painted green to match the fan. The bearings were cleaned and re-oiled with 3 in 1 motor oil. The fan was re-wired with vintage style cloth covered wire, and all the internal electrical connections were soldered and insulated with heat-shrink tubing or friction tape. New rubber grommets were fitted into the holes in the base and motor around the wiring, and also in the holes on the very bottom of the fan base to hold the base plate on.
