Circa 1910 Carleton Company of Boston electric fan with 8 diameter blades, cast iron base showing three speeds for this fan, motor is housed in a round ball casing. We bypassed the remnants of the worn cord to test the fan and it does run and sounds pretty quiet doing so. Aside from the cord, the blade guard is missing and so is the underside cover of the base. The on/off switch is some sort of composition or rubber or cardboard and the tip is worn. Surface rust on blades and body. Such a cutie in this small size. No brass ID tag or threaded screw holes for one, like other models I found on line. I hooked it up with a blowout box and alligator clips and hit the switch and it started to go and I cut it off quickly. Feeling brave I did it again and it wouldn’t run so I unscrewed one side of the carbon contacts and replaced the broken spring with a ballpoint pen spring and tried again and it ran fine. You will need to over haul it though wires are bare and worn and unsafe as it is but you probably knew that. I asked the previous owner about the cage and the bottom plate and he said he would look for them so maybe they will show up and I could pass them along later.
