ANTIQUE VINTAGE 1920 EMERSON CUTLER DESK CO. The Cutler Desk Company was started in the 1820s and was bought out by the Sikes Chair Company in 1930. They were known for making high quality roll top desks. This fan was specially built for them for drying wood. These fans were built without a speed selector switch and there is no opening in the base for a switch. Just plug it in and it goes. This is the only Emerson made in a 16 inch fan without a switch. There is also no collar to adjust the fan head side to side movement. The fan head is bolted to base from the factory. These fans were put on a small stand to blow on a bundle of wood. They were wired to a wall switch which turned on all the fans at one time. The fan is all original except for the head wire which was replaced. The blade is Brass with the Parker stamp. The fan is 20 inches tall, 16 ½ inches wide, and is constructed from Cast Iron, Steel, and Brass. The Cast Iron base does not have any cracks or breaks, and has all of its original paint except for a few small chips from age and use. Steel guard does not have any broken, bent, or missing wires. There is one broken weld on the bottom right hand side. The Brass blade has a nice patina and does not have any missing rivets, bent or creased blades, and they are balanced with no wobble. The cast iron motor cover has all of its original paint except for a few tiny chips from age. The brass oiler on the back of the motor was specially ordered by Cutler Desk Company and is the only Emerson with this custom oiler. The motor was disassembled, cleaned, inspected and oiled. Stator coils were revarnished to assure long motor life. The fan was tested for over 2 hours and ran smoothly and within spec with no issues. (Here is a short video of the fan running). The head wire was replaced and the power cord and plug are original to the fan. It is in pretty good shape but does have a few spots where it is starting to wear. There is a coil in the fan but what it is for is unknown. The overall condition of this Emerson gem is outstanding considering its age and usage. This fan moves an unbelievable amount of air and its built like a Mack truck. Emerson Quality really shows thru with this antique fan. Not many of these were built and there cant be very many of these left. This is a must have for the Antique or Vintage electric fan collector. It also makes a wonderful working Art Nouveau, Art Deco décor piece for the home or office. Remember At Emerson Built To Last. Please READ our Feed Back! Thanks so much for looking & happy eBaying!
