The cord on this fan has been replaced, when I bought it, it had already had a replaced cord… So I replaced that cord with a period looking cord. From my research, I could tell that this fan was made in the 1940’s. However, when I was replacing the cord, I noticed the copper wire was tinned, which indicates a more approximate time of around WW2… Because during the war, they did this to conserve copper. This fan works, is almost mint, has chrome plated blades and is in remarkable condition for its age. I used some swan mineral oil to freshin up it’s look. But running the fan on lesser voltage extends it’s life… It’s already outlived its creator and its company, and survived a world war… Maybe it can outlive you too! Comes from an immaculately clean nonsmoking home. Works but does not oscillate. Unclear how quiet they run when in perfect condition. Approx 58 tall when fully extended. Approx 38 tall in most compact configuration. Heavy base is approx 12.5 wide. Approx 13.5 pounds. 11.5 wide cage. Was established in Chicago in 1924. Alfred Bersted took the helm of his father’s business and successfully marketed inexpensive but reliable electric appliances from the during the 1920’s. As electric appliance sales exploded, he started with electric toasters & expanded to include fans. He then bought out United Electric Mfg. (who were already making Eskimo brand fans).
