The fan turns on and blades spin with no issue. The fan will oscillate but only a couple of inches in both directions.

You are viewing a very cool and rare Emerson Silver Swan oscillating 10 (blade size) art deco fan. They most certainly don’t make them like this anymore. Condition wise, it is in really good shape for being almost 100 years old. There is a spot missing on the “silver swan” label. There are some scratches on the rear chrome motor cap and some other various imperfections – but I would be very surprised if you were able to find an unrestored fan in better shape than this one. Please view the pictures and video for condition and ask questions. Honestly, I really don’t want to sell it because it really is that cool and works that well – but the wife says that I can’t keep everything. I have to make her happy…. Enjoy your new fan. You are going to love it. Early in 1930, a young woman named Jane Evans came to St. Louis to do some interior design work. She was introduced to the President of Emerson Electric. She proposed a radical stylish design. In 1932 Emerson introduced the Silver Swan. It used a blade made of aluminum, but was based on a yacht propeller design. The design was a major success, and probably helped Emerson survive the Depression. More and more aluminum was used for blades and designs varied greatly. Many colors were offered including Ivory, Forest Green, Dark Brown, Chrome, Nickel, Motors received their last important change. Emerson introduced the capacitor start motor. These started faster, ran quieter and were much more efficient. Motors were now as small as 4″ in diameter and could propel a 16″ blade made of aluminum. Cast aluminum blades appeared, using the latest aeronautical designs.

Up for your consideration is this SPECTACULAR Antique/Vintage Emerson Electric SILVER SWAN ART DECO 10 Oscillating Single-Speed Fan in Good working condition. I believe this fan was produced around the 1930’s or 1940’s era? The Model/Style/Type number is 5250-B. This fan is in Wonderful Original condition as I hope my pictures will provide. It is Not Perfect by any means as there are some nicks & scuffs but for a fan of it’s Age it is a SWEET HEART! It is clean from top to bottom & the finish produces a Very Nice sheen/shine but you may want to do a further “detailed” cleaning? The DARK BROWN base & cage are in original condition with a some scuffs/imperfection but still present itself Extremely Very well. The Silver Aluminum blades are straight & in really nice condition & look FANTASTIC. There is no pitting on the blades but there is some light scratch’s THAT CAN BE POLISHED OUT. I know from my own personal experience these blades can be Spit Shined to look out right AMAZING but I will leave that to the next owner if so desired to give them taht Workout>: The Silver/Chrome/Aluminum Nose cone is Nice but there are a couple of Extremely Small shallow dents in it. As I stated I believe this fan is ALL ORIGINAL except the electric cord is not the original Electric cord. The Green felt on the bottom is in Great condition that appears to be newer & done by a previous owner? This fan works Great on the Single-speed & seems to run NICE, SMOOTHLY & QUIETLY & it also Oscillates Nice & smoothly. The ” APPROXIMATE ” size of this WONDERFUL ART DECO FAN is 14″ High, 13″ cage & 6-3/4 Base. I have created & personalized a Special box to accommodate this WONDERFUL fan. Has been tested and it works well (only one speed functions so not sure if that’s how it was made or other speeds don’t work). The adjustment knob doesn’t work (so fan’s blade and motor can move up and down easily, shown in last picture). Has some paint loss, wear, and minor surface rust. Will need some minor TLC, but appears to be a nice mostly original piece. 9 3/4 inches across fan blades. Feel free to ask any questions.
