Here is a very rare Porter K&D #3 Fan and Motor. These were made in the 1890’s from around 1891 to 1896. I hooked it up to a 6 volt battery and it runs great. Better than some modern fans. It has no damage and is all original as far as I can see. If you collect the 1800’s motors or fans then here is really great one for the collection for sure. It had to be in a collection for some time to be in such great shape. It is 6″ high with out the wood base and around 9″ high to top of fan blade with the base being counted. It will be insured also. I’m listing another eclectic selection of mechanical, technological and musical antiques, and I suspect that there will be something to interest just about everyone. Here’s a beautiful and very scarce Porter Standard Motor No. 3, manufactured in the early 1890’s in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Condition is excellent throughout. Beautiful original enamel on the casting, with only minor wear. Multi-colored decorations are still vibrant on all sides. The armature moves freely and the shaft is straight. No damage evident to any of the parts. The blade is in excellent condition, with no damage. It can probably be made to work by someone familiar with its design, but when I apply 6v DC to the binding posts, it does not react. Without the blade mounted, the motor is about 6 high. The cast iron is not chipped or cracked. It retains most of its original stencil decoration. They are somewhat faded. The original paint is chipped in places but it still retains most of its original paint job. There are several scrape marks on one sidepic. The shaft spins freely. One end has an old wooden belt wheel. It might have been an old fan motor, it might have been on a jewelers work bench powering a small lathe. It could have served in many capacities. All of its screws and nut appear to be there. It is MISSING its brushes. It is 6 high. Its base is 3 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.
