I don’t think you’ll find a better, broader or more balanced assortment of technical antiques anywhere — hundreds of listings each year, almost all of them featuring eye-popping “gee whiz” gadgetry in exceptional original condition. Here’s a beautiful, working General Electric 3-speed oscillating “Kidney” fan, nicknamed for its oscillator box, which as you can see is shaped like — well, a kidney. The fan runs smoothly and quietly in all 3 speeds (see video), and its cosmetic condition is excellent. Glossy original black enamel, with a few scattered touch-ups. Polished brass fittings are correct and original. No damage to the cage, no damage to the trunnion or to the oscillator box. The line cord is an older, electrically safe replacement, but the fan otherwise appears to be original throughout. The fan has been disassembled, cleaned and lubricated, and it is suitable for safe operation. The oscillator has a wide sweep, and the blades push a lot of air, even at the slowest speed. The oscillator can be dis-engaged with the flip of a lever on the top of the housing. The fan will be disassembled for safe travel. Re-assembly should take only a few minutes, but if you’re not comfortable assembling technical antiques, and you don’t know anyone who is, you might want to pass. The fan is approximately 18″ high with a 12″ blade span. Barn-Find, but when your “bargain” arrives broken, and without any hint of how you might be able to put it back together, you’ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.

Model F10 catalog number 650. Runs 0.75 amp / 53 watts. Originally Made in Fulton New York circa 1940. This beautiful fan is fully operational and moves air like one would expect from a time when folks made quality products with top shelf materials. It has been totally disassembled. All parts cleaned in a sonic bath, and has been restored by a qualified master technician. Primed and painted with industrial grade paint, Seymour 473 Light Blue, with a Black grill and Black blade. All electrical contacts, switch, and the trim hardware have been hand polished to a mirror finish. Should last another eighty years or so.
