You are viewing a very cool and rare Emerson Silver Swan oscillating 10 (blade size) art deco fan. They most certainly don’t make them like this anymore. Condition wise, it is in really good shape for being almost 100 years old. There is a spot missing on the “silver swan” label. There are some scratches on the rear chrome motor cap and some other various imperfections – but I would be very surprised if you were able to find an unrestored fan in better shape than this one. Please view the pictures and video for condition and ask questions. Honestly, I really don’t want to sell it because it really is that cool and works that well – but the wife says that I can’t keep everything. I have to make her happy…. Enjoy your new fan. You are going to love it. Early in 1930, a young woman named Jane Evans came to St. Louis to do some interior design work. She was introduced to the President of Emerson Electric. She proposed a radical stylish design. In 1932 Emerson introduced the Silver Swan. It used a blade made of aluminum, but was based on a yacht propeller design. The design was a major success, and probably helped Emerson survive the Depression. More and more aluminum was used for blades and designs varied greatly. Many colors were offered including Ivory, Forest Green, Dark Brown, Chrome, Nickel, Motors received their last important change. Emerson introduced the capacitor start motor. These started faster, ran quieter and were much more efficient. Motors were now as small as 4″ in diameter and could propel a 16″ blade made of aluminum. Cast aluminum blades appeared, using the latest aeronautical designs.

ANTIQUE, VINTAGE 1915 GE COIN OPERATED BRASS BLADE FAN MUST SEE. Coin operated devices become popular in the late ninetieth century and this application was soon adapted to fans. Both General Electric and Westinghouse made coin operated fans for consumer use. The fan would give the user an hour of cool air for every nickel deposited. The more nickels deposited, the longer the fan would operate. Coin operated fans were ideal for hotels in warmer climates however the paying for air in a room you paid to use fell out of favor which made these relics quite rare. This model has a small handle attached for easy relocation and has an alternating current motor. The body is made of cast iron and is very heavy. There is a slot located at the shoulder of the base behind the motor where the coin could be deposited. A large fluted knob on the back of the base has instructions on how to operate the fan. The coin catch is located at the base of the fan. The motor is a 1914 collar oscillator design, but this fan does not oscillate. The black cage guard is made of steel an provides a dramatic contrast against the solid brass blades. Brass screws and accents stand out beautify when polished. Fan guard and blade will be. This General Electric fan has been very meticulously and painstakingly. Pictures speak for themselves. The GE badge is the signature of this awesome piece of. This fan has been totally disassembled and reassembled to fully function like it did when it was New. Here is a list of things that have been done to this fan, along with some in process pictures. All parts have been cleaned free of grease in a wash tank. All parts with paint have been bead blasted down to bare me tal. Bushings have been replaced with new. All internal parts have been wire wheeled. Continuity screw was replicated which is the most important part of a coin operated fan. All brass internal parts have been polished. Any blemishes in the castings (metal) have been filled and repaired. Painted with GLOSS BLACK one stage automotive paint (Three coats). We use high quality paint with hardener and reducer with catalyst. Paint has been wet sanded and. Olished with 3 different grades of polish. All Nuts and Bolts that are brass have been polished. The GE badge on the front has been Polished. Painted, and clear coated to original condition. Name Tags has been painted to original condition and. All nuts and bolts that are brass have been clear-coated. Fan Blades have been polished to a mirror shine, but have not been clear coated for maximum shine which is an option for the owner to polish. Fan blades have been balanced. All new rubber grommets. Totally rewired from stator with black cloth replica wire. New black replica plug. New oil in oil cup. New Grease has been applied. Assembled and ran for over five hours to ensure proper. (motor barely gets Warm). Here is an up close picture of the counter that will tell you how many times this fan has ran. Its amazing how well they used to make things, considering this fan will run for another hundred years. Coin operated devices become popular in the late ninetieth century and this application was soon adapted to fans. Both General Electric and Westinghouse. Made coin operated fans for consumer use. The fan would give the consumer an hour of use for each nickel deposited. The more nickels deposited, the longer the fan would operate. This was ideal for hotels in warmer climates. A small handle has been attached to the motor for greater mobility. This example is for alternating current. The base is made of cast iron and is very heavy. There is a slot located at the. Top of the base to deposit a coin. The large fluted knob on the back of the base has instructions on how to operate the fan. The hole at the base of the fan is the bank which holds the nickels. The motor is a 1914 collar oscillator design, but this fan does not oscillate. Here is an old blue print of this fan that I found. Name plate tag reads. Dimensions of this fan are 18from base to top of cage. The total width of the cage is 131/4. Total depth from front of badge to back of badge is 8 1/2. As you can see, a lot of work and hours has gone into this fan to make it function properly. This is not a cheap restoration. I have been restoring antiques over 25 years and take a lot of pride in my work and pay attention to every detail.
