Here’s a small, uncommon cast metal model of an Edison Bi-Polar Dynamo that was manufactured by New England Edison in 1911 — in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Boston. Although it has a hanger loop on top, the model was likely designed to be used as a paperweight. It weighs a bit less than a pound and is cast in what appears to be pot metal (or possibly lead — it is clearly not iron, as it has no properties of magnetic attraction). Condition is good, as you can see in the photographs, particularly for a souvenir. Measures approximately 4″ long x 3″ high x 2 wide. Barn-Find, but when your “bargain” arrives broken, and without any hint of how you might be able to put it back together, you’ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.

Circa 1910 Dynamo Electric Motor in The Manner of Thomas Edison’s Iconic Design. This Dynamo is supported by a thick, heavy cast brass base. “Louis Pegala Peru” is inscribed on the base. I was advised by a knowledgeable collector that this motor is from circa 1910. This motor may have been refinished in the past. The black finish displays nicely. This is an extremely well crafted piece. Tested and does not run.

For your consideration is this antique early Carlisle & Finch hand crank bipolar motor/dynamo. This motor is from my private collection and is in presentable original condition. The motor was tested when I acquired it and did run on low voltage DC. I forgot what voltage but it was around 10-20 volts. The motor is sadly missing the large pulley with crank that would have been on the spindle up above. The commutator appears to have electrical tape around the edge. I did not put this there and was like that when I acquired this motor. There is no severe damage to this piece aside from normal wear from a piece of this age. It will obviously need servicing if you plan to run it as I only ever had it for display purposes in my collection. Could be used to mock up an early fan, left as is, or put back together by sourcing the pulley/crank. A nice original early motor that would be perfect for any fan or early electrical collection.

For your consideration is this antique Eck Hurricane Desk Fan, Type 22 c1915. This fan works without any funky smells or obnoxious clunking. The motor runs smoothly. The on/off switch located at the base also adjusts the speed. There are 2 knobs on either side of the motor case near the back. Each of these also adjusts the speed when twisted – for some reason that made sense in 1915. There are a trio of holes on the base, which tells us it’s meant to be fastened down. To add evidence to that, if the fan is turned on while it’s pointed upwards, the thrust will actually knock it over. Almost lost a finger discovering that little tid bit. Don’t lose a finger, don’t do what I did! The cord is old and brittle and would need to be replaced for safe use. The fan blade is about 8 in diameter, the guard adds a bit to that measurement. The fan stands about 11 tall. The total weight with the cord is 8lbs, 13oz. I can’t decide the metal used here, but the blades appear to be brass. The body has a black finish that is mostly in tact. The mfg plate reads as follows. Eck Dynamo and Motor Company. We gave it a brief polish for the portrait session. We use new boxes.
