This vintage General Electric fan is a beautiful addition to any collection. The brass blade fan features an antique finish and a circular bird cage vent style. The fan is electric and has three speeds. It has an adjustable tilt/head feature. The fan is made of brass and has a cast iron base. It measures 13 inches in diameter and 16 1/2 inches in height. All original and has not been restored. This was used in a Barbershop in Dallas Texas (Preston & NW Highway) back in 60’s for warming a client’s neck for a massage. Don’t forget to look at my other old stuff for sale. The Emerson Electric Company introduced the Silver Swan at the height of the Depression in 1934. Its creation is an interesting story in itself. Joe Newman, an Emerson board member who was soon to take Emerson’s helm, challenged a St. Louis interior designer named Jane Evans with designing a modern desk fan that would depart conventional desk fan design. The result was one of the most beautiful, yet functional fans ever manufactured. The Silver Swan embodies the graceful elegance that its name implies, while its engineering is premium quality Emerson Electric of the 1930s. Emerson described the fan best in period literature. They simply called it “aristocratic”. The 12 Emerson Silver Swan desk fan represented in this gallery is a past restoration. The Silver Swan model is available in 10″ and 12″ versions. All-original condition, other than the cord, which is an old replacement and probably needs to be updated again (it’s getting stiff). The fan is 16″ with a 17″ cage. 21″ tall with an 8″ diameter base. The paint surface and parts appear to be original, We are not experts on fans, so there may be some small parts missing that we aren’t aware of, so feel free to ask questions. There is a set-screw missing that holds the up and down tilt in place. That’s the only thing we know is missing. One corner of the flag badge has come loose where it was soldered. There is spotting on the brass and some rubbing wear on the blade. There are a few small spots of paint loss on the body, but not much. There are a few dents in the cage. We have not tested this for hours, but it works on all three speeds, oscillates, and the motor runs quiet as a mouse and smooth as butter. There was no burning smell when it was running. You should assume that it may need a tune-up, and definitely have an inspection if intended for use. The item “WORKS! Style number 115678 fan. The fan has two patent dates, one reads Dec. 26, 93 and the second Oct 9, 06. We pluged the fan in and it works. The various speed control operates however we did not see it oscillate. The cage of the fan has a separation which can be seen pointed out in the close up photo. The fan comes with dust, dirt, paint wear, and a bend in the cage. I assume the blades are brass, a magnet does not stick. Please be your own final judge of the fan. Dimensions: 20″ tall to the cage top, across the span of two blades measures 16″, across the span of the cage is about 16&3/4″, the height to the top of the motor housing is 14&1/2″.
