ANTIQUE EMERSON JR. 9 BRASS BLADE FAN FULLY RESTORED
1920’s EMERSON JR. 9 FULLY RESTORED WITH BRASS BLADES. Perfect size for most desktops or small areas measuring approximately 12″ tall and 10″ wide. Despite its size this fan has considerable weight due to its cast iron construction. Originally the Emerson Jr. Line was manufactured with steel blades. During the restoration process the original steel blades were removed and replaced with new machine cut brass blades. Each blade was prepped prior to a multistage buffing process to generate a mirror reflection followed up with brass specific clear lacquer to offset future tarnishing. New matching brass rivets replace the old steel semi tubular rivets. All brass hardware has been polished and clear coated. All metal components were carefully prepped prior to painting and underwent a process including reverse electrolysis to remove the old “Japan” finish followed up with grinding and sandblasting. The removed paint and rust free cast iron surface had all porous areas filled, sanded and then two coats of 2 part PPG Epoxy primer with sanding between and after coats. Following the primer the pure black 2 part base paint was applied with a HVLP gun in two layers followed up with multiple coats of 2 part catalyst activated urethane clear also by PPG. All old wiring was removed and replaced with period like reproduced cloth covered wiring. Under the cloth wiring unseen is a plastic wire covering as is standard in todys wiring to minimize any effects if the cloth covering was to become cut unlike 100 year old wiring. The plug has been has also been replaced with a period like reproduction that is polarized. All wiring has been soldered and heat shrunk with areas prone to tension tied down such as the at the base of the cord and where the wiring is soldered into the motor. There is not any electrical tape or wire nuts used on this. The stator was pulled from the motor housing, cleaned, and reinsulated prior to the new head wire soldered into place. The rotor has also been cleaned and anew leather washer applied to the front rotor to prevent oil leaks. Rotor has been shimmed within the magnetic center of the stator and filler gauges used to check for even distance between stator and rotor. This fan originally did not come with an ON/OFF switch and to make it more convenient a modern inline switch has been added. This fan is single speed and does not oscillate.
